But that 11,000 feet deep thing, while accurate, is misleading because canyon depth is measured from the top of the highest rim feature. The Colca Canyon is surrounded by Andean peaks (and at least one very active volcano), so the measurement is taken from the top of the peaks to the bottom of the canyon which results in 11,000 feet. However, trailheads into the canyon start much, much lower down. Most walks require a more reasonable 4,000 feet of elevation change from trailhead to the canyon floor.

Between 03:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. we will pick up you from your hotel, then we will start our trip over the andes to Chivay village, where we will have our breakfast after get some energy we continue our journey to the Cruz del Cóndor (3,287 masl), at this beautiful and cold as well point we will enjoy the fabulous flight of the Condors.
Then we will continue the trip to Cabanaconde village at 10:00 am, approximately, we start our trek at the viewpoint of Pampa San Miguel about 3280 m.s.m., after three and a half hours of walking we will reach San Juan de Chuccho 2,300 m.s.m., descending 1000 meters approx. In that place we will have our lunch; After lunch we will continue the hike for 2 hour and a half until Cosñirhua (2,660 masl), here we will have a little break to continue the hike for 2 hours untill reach Sangalle located (1,160 msnm) place where we will enjoy our free time in a cool pool of 20 ºC. After a restful break we will have dinner and spend the night in family houses.
We will wake up early at 05:00 in the morning, previously coordinated with the guide, we will start the trek taking the way up to the village of Cabanaconde 3 hours approx. where we will have the breakfast .On the way back to Chivay we will visit the natural viewpoints of Wayrapunko, Antahuilque, Choquetico, where we can appreciate the work of our pre-Inca ancestors, hanging tombs and litho-scale models, as well as we will have respective stops in the towns of Maca and Yanque to be able to go to the hot water pools (CHACAPI), we return to the town of Chivay and have lunch and return to the city of Arequipa where we will make some stops one of them at the Patapampa viewpoint (at 4910m.snm) and other at the reserve national de Salinas and Aguada blanca arriving in Arequipa approximately at 5:00 p.m.
